About Joseph & James
Art photography in limited edition
We know what you’re thinking: “Who the F*** are Joseph & James? Surely not another hipster duo conceived by some high-end advertising agency?”
Wrong! They’re actually two men who played an important role in the history of photography, and this is their story...
In 1826, the French scientist Joseph Nicéphore Niépce took the first photograph ever, titled ‘View from the Window at Le Gras’. Granted, it wasn’t the artsiest of pictures, but what matters is that it was the first!
In 1861, the first colour photo was created by Scottish scientist James Clerk Maxwell – a photo of a coloured ribbon (no joke).
Joseph & James is a tribute to these two important figures in the history of photography.
Joseph & James will introduce you to some of the world’s greatest photographers, both established and up-and-coming, and will increase the number of copies of their work to make it accessible to a wide audience of collectors. So, instead of offering 6 pieces for €5,000 each, Joseph & James will publish 500 for €75 each. And we will also sell larger-sized collectables of 50 pieces.
The photographs featured in Joseph & James’ collection are produced by a renowned professional photo lab in the Netherlands, and each piece comes with a numbered and signed certificate of authenticity from the artist.
